Choosing a wooden bokken

With several different wood types to choose from it can be confusing if you are new to weapons training and selection. Most of our wooden bokken are made from red oak which is very strong and durable and comes in a natural or black lacquered. This is a good selection if you are just beginning and the weight of the bokken is not an issue.

If you want a bokken that is lighter the white oak bokken is not only lighter, but a little slimmer as well so it is easier to handle for smaller stature people. The ash wood bokken is also lighter than the red oak, but is typically about the same thickness.

If you are looking for a sword for a child we also have the youth bokken which is not only shorter it is considerably thinner making it easy for small hands to handle.
