Wing Chun Kung Fu

The obscure martial art of Wing Chun remained basically unknown until the turn of the twentieth century. While this martial art was just developing back then it has since become a dominant force in martial arts in China. There are currently many students of Wing Chun. Using force to counter force is the first lesson of Wing Chun. Weaker fighters can take out larger and stronger opponents by using force against force. Wing Chun stylists are taught to use their brains so that they can turn their opponents size and strength against them. Learning how to counter force is a large part of the Wing Chun training. The stylist needs very little strength in order to counter force. Using the proper technique the Wing Chun stylist can easily take down opponents three to four times his size

Punching, kicking, and grappling holds are also taught by Wing Chun. Since the use of force against force through throwing and striking are the main points taught by Wing Chun, grappling techniques are not really emphasized. Vital areas of the body are targeted in the fast strikes taught by this martial art. Wing Chun stylists are taught to both protect and attack the most vulnerable parts of the body, those along the center line. Martial artists are taught to always aim their attacks for areas along this line. One powerful blow to the areas around this center line can result in the end of the battle. The majority of the movement of Wing Chun takes place along the center line, which is the shortest straw between the stylist and the opponent.

Students of Wing Chun learn to direct attacks as well as opposing force toward the center line during much of their training. Students of Wing Chun learn to use force against force in any situation in this special martial art. The methods of Wing Chun are very effective for self defense even though there are not many grappling holds or weapons taught.
