Testing and Competition
Testing is important to most martial arts practitioners, as they wish to determine and demonstrate their level of skill in specific contexts and gain recognition of their achievement.
Students in the martial arts often undergo periodic evaluation by their teacher before advancing to the next level of training. As they advance and are successful in testing, they earn the next color of belt or a new title.
Testing is important to most martial arts practitioners, as they wish to determine and demonstrate their level of skill in specific contexts and gain recognition of their achievement. Testing methods differ from system to system but usually include forms or sparring. Sparring may range from light to medium contact, with some full-contact variations. Forms and sparring are both frequently seen in martial art exhibitions and tournaments. In some competitions, practitioners of different disciplines are pitted against each other and must use the same set of rules.
